Today, crew hiring runs on group chats and gut feel.
Crew can't look for the next boat without their current captain finding out. Captains and owners sift hundreds of unvetted messages and still hire on a hunch. Both sides lose.
Facebook groups, dock gossip, and crossed fingers.
- Crew post in public groups — your boat sees you looking
- Captains & owners wade through hundreds of unvetted DMs
- Hires made on gut feel while junior crew turnover remains high
- No privacy, no matching, no accountability
Crew look in private. Captains and owners hire on fit.
- Crew stay anonymous until they choose to connect
- Captains & owners get compatibility-scored matches, not noise
- Decisions backed by documents on file and real fit signals
- Go public on Public Listings only when you want to
Privacy you control
Your name stays hidden. Your post is your call.
CrewConnect separates private matching from public listings. You decide when a search becomes public and when your identity becomes visible.
01
Browse without announcing it
Explore the next move quietly. Your current boat can't see your private profile or that you're browsing.
02
Control the reveal
Your real name stays hidden until you choose to reveal it in an active conversation.
03
You pick who sees your post
A job post is Public (all crew on CrewConnect), Matches only or Invite only. Posts start on Public, so pick Matches only or Invite only to keep a position quiet. On the public listings board, contact details are shown after sign-in.
Two sides. One simple flow.
Pick your side — the steps adapt to you.
Prefill an anonymous profile
Upload a resume or type a few basics — we fill in your certs and experience for you to review. Hidden until you say so.
Match on how you run a boat
Answer a few quick work-style questions so we can match you on temperament, schedule, and experience — not just tickets.
Connect on your terms
Reveal yourself only to matches you like. Your current boat can't see your private profile or that you're browsing.
Post a position
Keep it private for compatibility-scored matches, or publish to Public Listings when reach matters.
Review real matches
See reviewed crew ranked by fit — certifications, experience, boat type and schedule, scored up front.
Connect and crew up
Message your best fits and fill the role — with fewer bad hires and no group-chat chaos.
See temperament, not just the paperwork.
Living on a sportfishing boat for months requires more than matching certifications. Our optional behavioral assessment is built on the same research the U.S. Navy uses to evaluate submariner compatibility. When both sides take it, you see how well you're likely to work together, while both sides stay anonymous until they choose to connect.
Match score and compatibility are shown separately, never blended into one number.
Built for the people who make a boat program run.
CrewConnect was founded by Steve Momot, a Fort Lauderdale marine photographer and creator behind @steve360fishing. It is built to make the crew-hiring process clearer for captains, mates, owners, and the people looking for their next boat.
Marine industry experience. Real dock and tournament perspective.

How does CrewConnect match crew with boats?
It works in two steps. First it looks at any certifications a captain or owner asks for. Crew who hold all of them show first. Crew missing some still show below, and each card says how many they hold. Then it scores how well you fit: your job, where you want to work, experience, kind of boat, schedule, pay, and tonnage for captain jobs. The best fits show first, for captains and for crew. We don't know of another crew site that matches sportfishing crew this way.
Is it free?
Crew is free. That covers your profile, your matches and your messages. Captains and owners can post jobs and hire free during our launch. Plans for captains and owners come later.
Will my current captain or boat find out I'm looking?
Not from your profile. You show up under a made-up display name. Your real name, your photo and the boat you're on now stay hidden. Captains who are hiring see your experience, not who you are. You decide who sees your real name, one person at a time. A post on Public Listings is public, so anyone can see that one.
Is this for sportfishing or yachts?
Both. We started with sportfishing because that's where we come from, and yacht crew and yacht programs are welcome too. Pick the kinds of boats you want to work on, and your matches follow that.
Do I need a license or experience to join?
No. Green crew and deckhands are welcome. Add whatever you have. Some jobs require a certain license, so add your certificates and upload them when you can. It puts you in front of more captains.
How do captains know my licenses are real?
You can upload your documents, like your USCG license, STCW, TWIC or drug test, and your profile shows they're on file. If you're a captain, we also review your license document. That's a document review, not an independent check of the license, so captains should still check references and talk to you before they hire.

I'm a captain or owner. How do I find crew?
Sign up as a captain or owner and add your program: the boat, where you fish and what you need. Then post the position. Keep it private and see matched crew ranked for you, or also put it on Public Listings to reach more people.
Can I find day work or pick-up trips?
Yes. The Day Work board lists one-day boat jobs like wash and wax, line handling, provisioning and refit work. For pick-up trips and tournament fill-ins, Public Listings lets crew post that they're available and captains post that they need someone.
What happens when I find a good match?
Tap Request Intro to send a short hello. If they accept, you keep talking in Messages. Share your name and phone number only when you're ready.
What is the compatibility survey?
It's an optional questionnaire about how you like to work, like long trips, schedules and how you talk things through. When both sides take it, you see a separate compatibility score next to the match. It's extra information, and it never hides you from anyone.
Who is behind CrewConnect?
Steve Momot, the Fort Lauderdale marine photographer behind @steve360fishing. He spends his days on boats and at tournaments, and he built CrewConnect because hiring crew still runs on Facebook groups and word of mouth.
